The Great Migration: Monarch Butterfly
The phenomenon of migration from Canada, the United States and Mexico is represented par excellence by the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) that reaches the forests of Oyamel, pine, oak and cedar in the State of Mexico and Michoacán. During the migration season it is a great opportunity to teach its formal monitoring through participatory science and the explanation of its biology such as its life cycle, eating habits and the characteristics of its metabolism to protect itself from its predators. This tour takes place in two ejido communities immersed in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.
Night Shines: Firefly Watching
Well-preserved oyamel forests in the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala are home to fireflies that we find annually in the rainy season. These small beetles show us a spectacle that is rarely observed and helps us demonstrate the importance of forests, their species, their care and responsible tourism in natural areas for community benefit.
Free Shells: Volunteer with Sea Turtles
Sea turtles are in some risk category in NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. In order to contribute to their conservation, we visit and support the activities of turtle camps located in the state of Veracruz and Guerrero that are governed by NOM-162-SEMARNAT-2012.

Songs, wings and colors: Birdwatching
Birds are one of the most emblematic species for their great beauty, variety of songs and colors. Furthermore, they are indicators of the habitats in which they are found. Birdwatching is a clear example of sustainable tourism as it promotes the preservation of the environment, biodiversity and regional development of the communities where the birds are found.
The fifth kingdom: Mushrooms and culture
In different rural communities, from semi-arid to temperate zones, mushrooms represent great cultural importance as they are used as food and medicine. With people from the community we make tours in the mountains to observe the variety of fungi, their biology, their role in the ecosystem, their cultural importance and collection and conservation techniques are explained. The mushrooms that are food are collected and cooked in the field rescuing the traditional recipes to taste them.
Between ravines and cacti: Metztitlán
It is a Natural Protected Area located in the state of Hidalgo, it is characterized by its canyons, extensive ravines and its semi-arid climate that provide an impressive landscape, in which we can observe a great diversity of cacti. In the region we visit Environmental Management Units (UMA), which aim to conserve species at risk and take advantage of the local flora in a sustainable way. These visits reveal the wealth of ecosystems focusing on semi-arid areas and the biodiversity they protect, as well as the potential of a UMA to undertake community development and sustainable tourism.
